Artefact Development
Why have I chosen this topic?
With the advent of Web 2.0 and mobile technologies the number of young adults who engage with social media sites has increased dramatically. Social media sites provide young adults with entertainment and a way of communicating and connecting with friends and family, which in turn enhances communication skills.
Within my current employment I have observed the impact that social media has on learners in their personal lives. Young adults share information online in a flippant manner without any thought of the trace that they are leaving behind when they engage with digital environments. They lack understanding that the digital footprint trace that they leave behind paints a picture of who they are to the world and a lot of this information is not always appropriate for public consumption.

Target Group
The target group for this training are early school leavers. The reason that I have chosen this age group is that if young adults are made aware of their digital footprint at an early stage of engagement this will allow them to make valid decision on the information that they share online into the future.
Multimodal Approach
I have chosen to use an interactive multimodal approach for the development of this artefact to assist learners in learning the topic by accommodating as many different learning styles as is possible. As stated by Moreno and Mayer (2007, p.310) “student understanding can be enhanced by the addition of non-verbal knowledge representations to verbal explanations".
Many different types of interactivity have been included in this artefact to assist the learner with information acquisition by integrating the new knowledge with existing knowledge.

By creating an interactive multimodal learning environment for the learner it will empower the learner to be successful in their learning by building the learners confidence by being an active participant in their own learning.
Articulate Presenter
Using articulate presenter for the development of an elearning resource is easy as the software is a Microsoft PowerPoint using an additional ribbon. This allows the developer to develop the elearning resource using software available within DIT for the resource.
The one issue that I found with the software is the publishing of the software. When you publish it does not produce a .swf file and therfore you will need to have access to a LMS to publish your work online.
Articulate Storyline
Using Articulate Storyline 30 day trial I was able to convert the Articulate Presenter artefact I had developed which in turn allowed me to enhance the artefact and publish it online.
One thing that end users should be aware of is that when you publish content from Storyline and upload it online, the only browser it is not viewable from is Google Chrome.
